Bolsover Castle

Perched on a ridge high above the Vale of Scarsdale, on the site of a medieval fortress, English Heritage‘s Bolsover Castle is an extraordinary 17th-century aristocratic retreat. The exquisite ‘Little Castle’ has remarkable wall paintings and interiors, and the Riding House is the earliest such building in England to survive complete.

Whilst carrying out a makeover in the Little Castle, Helen Wyld of National Trust Scotland was asked to write a report about what tapestries that would have originally hung there. Following this report Bolsover approached Zardi & Zardi and commissioned them to look into the feasibility of finding such tapestries and negotiating the rights to copy them for use at Bolsover. It was decided the most suitable pieces were the Abraham Series from Blickling Hall, a National Trust property. The NT agreed to let Zardi & Zardi reproduce their tapestries for English Heritage.
